Suraj Panigrahi is in a dilemma. He has just emerged from his boss’ cabin. There is this attractive proposal that Raje has offered him – to manage the 100 member strong cross-functional team as the general manager, product development. Panigrahi has been working as senior scientist for the last eight years and has been enjoying the job every moment. He is worried whether he will actually get the opportunity to do what he enjoys most – research – his passion. While Raje has promised that he will still be in the lab, he pretty much knows that now onwards, it will be more of managing the scientists and others rather than actually doing what he loves. He knew that his wife, Surabhi, would be very happy about this news. She never made a secret of her unhappiness over the lack of aura around the job of a scientist unlike some of her kitty members’ husbands who were occupying powerful positions. And this indeed was weighing heavily in his mind adding to his dilemma.
