In the last two decades, there has been considerable degree of hype about HR, its potential and promise for organisational wellbeing. Academics, professional organisations as also the new breed of HR professionals have rather tautologically exhorted the virtues of HR. Normative sermonisation accompanied by quick HR recipes has helped little to change either the organisations’ orientation to HR or its contribution of HR to business outcomes. This nebulous foundation of a good concept is partly responsible for HR’s beleaguered reputation.
