Graduating from CBTs and video cassettes to the e-learning mode has been a long haul for trainers and learners alike. But can soft skills be taught virtually? Skeptics insist that e-learning may be fine to impart technical knowledge, but people skills cannot be taught without a live, human interface. Industry statistics indicate otherwise. Last year, in the U.S., soft skills accounted for $565 million of the $2.2 billion e-learning market. 70% of training professionals who attended an American Society for Training and Development annual conference confirmed their intentions to use e-learning for soft-skills training over the next one year.
