25% Of Learning & Development Budgets Spent On Sales Training

The advent of automation and ‘robots’ have resulted in massive transformations in human tasks and jobs, changing the skill-sets required for diverse jobs within organisations. According to a report by Mettl, a leading talent assessment company, which has surveyed over 1500 such L&D experts across India, companies are spending about 25 per cent of their learning & development budgets on training sales teams. Further, the average L&D spend per employee is INR 41,838 per annum, with a major focus on sales teams. Average spend per employee in Senior Level is 3 X times compared to entry-level employees. While over 80% of organisations have some sort of structured L&D process, ‘improving employee performance’ is the prime focus of their programmes. Highlighting the challenges that companies face in their programmes, ’employees not attending programmes’ is the biggest challenge for L&D teams. The survey also finds that 37 per cent of L&D experts find ‘assessment technology’ to be the most effective way to evaluate success of these programmes.
