Both being an integral part, whom do we recognise and reward more – Risk Managers or Fire Fighters?

We don’t recognize more or less – it’s a perception and a paradoxical statement in my opinion. We typically reward and recognize based on what ticks. Since the topic is to choose between Risk Managers or Fire Fighters, I would say we do this in an intrinsic and extrinsic manner. Financial rewards are an extrinsic motivating factor, and nonfinancial incentives represent the intrinsic one which would then suit Fire Fighters and Risk Managers respectively. It’s interesting to note that eventually, we employ less intrinsically motivated actions to inculcate a culture of nurturing leadership, collaboration and creativity. As children, spontaneous learning and curiosity are vital for our cognitive development. As we get older, rules and regulations mean that most of what we do is extrinsically motivated to some extent. And now in the conceptual age that we live in, the most logical is to go back to the route we must, which is – small things matter and taking risks is OK.
