While it is an accepted practice for a manager to give feedback to employees, when it comes to reverse feedback, does it have limited applications?
Fear of backlash and strain in existing rapport holds them back
In the words of Albert Einstein, “The value of a man should be seen in what he gives and not in what he is able to receive.” This idyllic thought could spring in Einstein’s mind, because Einstein never had a manager. In the corporate world, employees usually find themselves on a sticky wicket, when it comes to giving feedback to their managers. The biggest apprehensions are ‘fear’ of backlash and straining of the existing rapport they have with their manager. Also, as it is a small world in digital realm, employees may have to work with the same person in future in some other organization, so they might ignore the unlikeable traits of the manager to focus on the positive traits for a more lasting relationship.
