Driving around looking for open restaurants / convenient stores to get food for my team onsite who are busy dismantling and boxing desktops & peripherals for deployment to employees’ homes so they can go online and work and have money to pay their bills. This was at the height of the quarantine where no public transportation is available and people are locked down at respective homes until further notice. I was stopped at a couple military checkpoints & pretended to be an IT personnel trying to reach one of our sites for support.

We organize our family schedule for the week to consider school activities, family errands and work schedule to follow. My husband and I decide in advance who will do the errands or be with my daughter in case any of us is needed in the office or will be stuck for longer than usual hours in meetings. Setting up a separate home office also helps establish the routine which my family knows that when I’m inside, they need to knock or message me in advance should they need to see me or have things to consult.

This has been a guiding principle for me as I work on attaining that work-life balance.
“The most important work you and I will ever do will be within the walls of our own homes.” – Harold B. Lee
No matter how tied up we are with deliverables and deadlines at work, it is important that we deal with our family responsibilities first and be present whenever we are at home. When we do this, there is peace & harmony in our family and we will be able to accomplish our lined up tasks or even adhoc ones at work as there will be no disruptions in between.

Tell us one of your superwoman moments.

I am sure that there are few instances in every woman's life where she would have broken the shackles and have lived a super woman moment.
I can easily recollect two Superwoman moments for me.
First one a blast from the past, A small town girl took a stand for herself and became "A first generation girl" who went out for her further studies.
And the second one a recent incident- When the entire country was reeling under the lockdown my mom got covid positive, away from me. I managed to rush down to my home town to take care of her along with my work. And I am glad to share that I managed both my responsibilities quite well. My Mom is doing great now and I am getting ahead with my work.

It’s important to be clear in what you want to achieve. And once you’ve set a goal, there should be no turning back. Face every hurdle, fight every battle and not let yourself lose sight of your goal. Your only limit is your mind.

Tell us one of your superwoman moments.

The COVID-19 pandemic caused a profound shock to our societies, especially in the day-to-day life of women. We had to quickly adapt to our life and respond to new demands at work and home.

One of my superwoman moments was last year when I started working from home while taking care of my son and taking care of home. It was a challenge to do so many things at the same time!, keeping the productivity and efficiency at work. My son started 1st grade, and I had to attend virtual classes with him, while having meetings at work, while cooking. I had to be a super mom, a teacher, a therapist, and of course an HR reference for all my collaborators in Latam.

What/who motivates you in life?

My family and the people I work with motivate me to become better every day. I have the honor of working with excellent professionals from different fields across the globe.

Working in HR can be immensely rewarding. Every day, I get an opportunity to create meaningful and lasting relationships, learn new things, live my passions and do the best to support the company’s biggest asset: its people. I love the job of making the workplace a better experience and making people’s working lives better, even in some small ways.

What's your me-time?

I like studying and reading. In my free time, I take English classes and I study Astrology as a hobby. I take GYM classes and I like painting as well. Along with this, I love traveling and exploring different cultures and places.

How do you balance work and home while working from home?

Being an HR woman implies that I have to lead by example. At Tecnotree, we promote work–life balance and we encourage people not to work in non - working hours.

However, working from home and in a global company involves working flexible hours, so managing work-life balance becomes crucial.

After a few months working over the table in my dining room, I decided to create a comfortable and different space for work, like a little office at home. I begin with a morning routine and I make a remote work schedule that has a start and end time. I also make sure to take a lunch break and a coffee break. During the quarantine at Tecnotree, we organized virtual Gym & dance lessons, and a space called “Coffee with HR”, inviting people from different countries to have breakfast or a coffee online, sharing personal experiences, and talking about any topic. These little interactions go a long way to maintain a work-life balance when working from home.

A motivational message for other women out there.

I would say to all women: Always take on new challenges, even if you are not sure you are completely ready. If you wait around for the exact right opportunity, you might find yourself waiting around while your skills and experience go to waste. The superhuman stereotype sets up a lot of women for failure in the workplace. When they can’t or choose to not “have it all” they assume that they aren’t successful. Failures and disappointments are going to happen occasionally, no matter who you are and what industry you’re working in. Sometimes these will be your fault, and sometimes they won’t. The one thing that all failure scenarios have in common is that you can move on from them. No matter how embarrassing it may feel, or how dire, all you can do is accept that things happened the way they did, understand why things happened what they did, and learn what you can do next time to help avoid the same kind of catastrophe.

And remember, whatever choices you make (job, relationships, skill-building) should be ones that fit with who you are, not necessarily who you think you should be.

I don’t believe in the concept of “superwoman”. I think that word puts unreasonable expectations on women. I do not claim to be a super woman – just a human woman. Women need to be less self critical and stop judging themselves and other women for not adhering to standards of perfection. It is okay to do poorly in some areas, be average in others and be a rockstar in your field of choosing.

What/who motivates you in life?

All the women who have held their ground in spite of challenges at the workplace and at home - they have paved the way for the next generations to move forward. I feel fortunate to be where I am and I hope to pass on my experience and learnings to younger aspirants. My mother is my biggest inspiration to be compassionate and kind – she was a completely guileless and trusting person and I hope I can be more like her.

What's your me-time?

Taking some time out to read a book every day. A long brisk walk in the evenings.

How do you balance work and home while working from home?

I have a supportive partner – my husband is a wonderful father to our kids. He is the go-to parent for my kids and that leaves me free to focus on my demanding work schedule. We do try to carve out family time everyday to play board games, have meals together, or go down to the park for a game of badminton or a quick picnic when the weather is right. Our dog Leo is a great new addition to the family and keeps everyone sane. Every couple of months, we take the car out and drive up for a short vacation in the hills.

A motivational message for other women out there.

Reach out to each other and share your stories. If you feel you are in a tough spot at home or work – when you share your experience you will realise that your situation is not unique. Every woman faces similar challenges and talking about it helps. Be bold about your career choices and learn to take calculated risks. Remember that your career journey may not always be linear – you can take detours to explore what else you can be good at. But whatever you do – please be resilient and don’t give up. In the end- I believe miracles do happen – but not overnight, instead they unfold over the course of several years. Looking back you will be amazed to see how far you have come!

Tell us one of your superwoman moments.

I believe every woman is a super woman and every moment is a superwoman moment. We women are blessed with multitasking powers and every second of time we parallelly manage multiple things multi-fold. More importantly, we are damn good with what we do! Personally and professionally there have been many events in my life which can be termed as superwoman moments , and by mentioning one of them, I can't steal the thunder from the others.

What/who motivates you in life?

I am truly blessed to have multiple powers who have been a driving force in my life. To mention here, I take this opportunity to thank once again the 3 mentors who have not only contributed in my life personally and professionally but have also played an integral part in shaping me to where I am and who I am- Sankha Bhomick -Vice President, Goldman Sachs ; Malini Moorthy - Sr. Vice President HR- Hexaware Technologies and Mr. V.K Prasad - Sr. General Manager (Retd.) - Mahindra & Mahindra. They have played multiple roles for me - as Cheerleader who always encourages me and pulls me up whenever I feel low, as Motivator who constantly inspires me to dream and do big things, as Safe Spacer who protects and teaches me that life is a journey to enjoy & not to be taken seriously, as Challenger who always questions me (which are uncomfortable at times), they point my blind spots to ensure I consistently explore the place of commitment of my success and as Coach who always pushes me to try and do stuff out of my comfort zone. My energy, passion and commitment comes from these 3 and I wish more power to them!

What's your me-time?

Being the owner of my own destiny, I do stuff which I am truly passionate about and I love whatever I do. So frankly speaking, never found a reason to categorically define something as Me time stuff (sorry to burst a bubble here) My life motto is very simple - Anything which brings smile to me is my Me - Time and universe transpires it for me!

When I became a Mom

What/who motivates you in life?

Sadguru.
I believe we human beings are the most evolved creatures on the planet with the most complex neurological structure. We have a vivid sense of memory and imagination. Every second passing by is a lost opportunity. If you keep reminding yourself of this thing, you have much more to achieve and offer to humanity as a human being.

What's your me-time?

My me-time is my fitness routine- my every morning exercise routine lets me analyse things that I have been through and prepare me mentally and physically for the upcoming day. It works for me as an energy booster. Also, meditation calms me down and allows me a chance to thank this beautiful world for everything.

How do you balance work and home while working from home?

It is challenging for a woman who lives in a traditional Gujarati family to maintain work-life balance while working from home. It's a modern-day crisis for women, but I have generous support from my family in that case. Every woman working from home requires the same. My son follows his predefined calendar, and my sister-in-law and mom help me with the household duties and provide me crucial support for my meetings and calls.
