Japan Offers More Work Opportunities to Specified skilled workers from India

The central government recently signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) with the Government of Japan on a "Basic Framework for Partnership for Proper Operation of the System Pertaining to 'Specified Skilled Worker'".

The current MoC will implement an institutional mechanism for partnership and cooperation on sending skilled Indian workers to Japan. The workers should have qualified the requisite skill and Japanese language test to qualify for working in fourteen specified sectors in Japan. The country would grant a new status of "Specified Skilled Worker" to the Indian workers.

To oversee the implementation of the MOC, a Joint Working Group will be set up. The agreement will help enhance people-to-people contacts and encourage mobility of skilled Indian professionals to Japan. Japan has opened these 14 sectors to skilled Indian professionals - Building cleaning; Nursing care; Industrial machinery manufacturing industry; Material Processing industry; Construction; Shipbuilding and ship-related industry; Electric and electronic information related industry; Aviation; Automobile maintenance; Agriculture; Lodging; Food and beverages manufacturing industry Fisheries; and Foodservice industry.
