The pandemic has pushed academicians and teachers to plunge into the online mode of teaching. The adoption of technology-driven teaching is set to transform the traditional Education/Teaching industry in India.
Naukri.com trend report shows the growing popularity of online & e-learning job roles in India. The platform witnessed a 4X growth in the demand for professionals for online, e-learning, and remote roles when compared to 2019. The job listings for work from home roles within the Education sector have also gone up by 3.5X post-pandemic.
Consequently, the platform also analyzed recruiters search data to showcase the top keywords in the industry. Keywords such as 'Teaching', 'Counselling', 'Training', and 'Subject matter experts' are trending in the pandemic era.
The movement towards online learning has expedited the need for teaching tools to adapt its delivery of study material for students. This has boosted recruiter demand for a very specific skill called 'Instructional Design' that combines education with technology and communication. The importance of this skill is reflected in recruiter demand with Instructional Design searches up by 112% Y-O-Y growth as of July 20'.
Pawan Goyal, Chief Business Officer at Naukri.com said, "The pandemic has challenged the notion of physical presence for better education and the quick shift to a digital model of teaching has only increased momentum for the latter. Recruiter demand for skills such as Instructional Design on Naukri indicates that education is moving online and there is a need for professionals who can develop systems to optimize this shift for teachers and students. The growth of EdTech platforms and increased hiring by these players indicates major reforms in the sector."
Top players in EduTech have been raising fresh funding from investors, and the expansion of these companies is reflected in their hiring trends as well with players like BYJUs, WhiteHat Jr, Simplilearn and Toppr actively hiring on Naukri. Hiring activity is also seen in educational institutions such as Podar Education Network, Rustomjee Kerawalla Foundation, Amity University and even coaching centers such as FIITJEE are offering various positions.
The direct result of a growing EdTech Industry and acceptance of remote working as an aftereffect of the pandemic is mirrored by jobseeker searches on Naukri. Search keywords such as 'Work from Home', 'Online Tutor' and 'Online Teaching' showed exponential improvement in their search rankings.
Over 1000 new jobs have been added to the Naukri platform in the Education/Teaching sector in July'20. Top six metros contribute to 55% of jobs in the sector led by Delhi NCR and Bengaluru.
Some key professionals that are in demand in the sector are Teachers, Counselors, Trainers, Lecturers and Professors. Teachers currently contribute to 16% of the roles, Counsellors contribute to 19% and Assistant Professor & Lecturer roles are 20% of opportunities within the Education/Teaching industry. The average salary for 'Teacher' roles ranges between 2-5 LPA and 6 – 11 LPA for 'Professor' roles. The hiring of professionals in mid-level management roles gained spotlight in the sector when compared to hiring of freshers in the industry, as a result of the pandemic.
