Imagine that you are the native of a planet where there is little or no gravity. You visit planet earth as a tourist. You feel rather uncomfortable and you are shocked to discover that if you let go of something, it immediately falls to the ground and in many cases it breaks. This is a cause of a great deal of embarrassment and annoyance. After some time on the planet, or a few visits you adapt your behaviour, and although gravity continues to cause you inconvenience and you still appear to be rather clumsy, you fit in a little better and become less noticeable. Even if you did not expect it, gravity once noticed is very predictable. Even if the cause remains invisible, its effect is apparent and you can very quickly relate the effect to the cause. You may call it gravity, after all you have never heard of it; given the inconvenience, which it causes you, you may think of a very uncomplimentary and a not very scientific name for it in your own language.
