Arvind Krishna is the new CEO of IBM

Indian-origin technology leader Arvind Krishna is all set to lead International Business Machines Corp (IBM) from April, 2020.  He will be replacing longtime CEO Virginia Rometty.

Presently, Krishna is serving as the Senior Vice President in the organisation. His responsibilities also include the IBM Cloud, IBM Security and Cognitive Applications business, and IBM Research.

Prior to this, he was general manager of IBM's Systems and Technology Group's development and manufacturing organisation. He has built and led many of IBM's data-related businesses.

Krishna had joined IBM in 1990. He is an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, and holds a PhD in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign.

"I am thrilled and humbled to be elected as the next Chief Executive Officer of IBM, and appreciate the confidence that Ginni and the Board have placed in me," Krishna said in a press statement issued by IBM.

With this, Krishna become the third Indian to superhead a US-based multinational firm after Microsoft corp's CEO Satya Nadella and Google CEO Sundar Pichai.
