Gig Workers' Salary Returns to Pre-Covid Levels

A survey conducted by by human resource firm FlexingIt states that the salaries of independent professional consultants or high-skilled gig workers in India is returning to pre-covid-19 levels. The salaries of gig workers had dropped between 20 per cent to 25 per cent after the nationwide lockdown.

 

The revival is fueled by changing work culture, growing preference of employers for independent and high-skilled consultants for short-term requirements and present economic environment.

 

Carried out among 70,000 independent professionals and based on 384,000 salary quotations, the report indicates that a revival has been taking place in the salary space in the labour market. 

 

The survey stated, “The median fee earned by independent consultants dropped by almost 25 per cent between the first and second quarter of 2020 but started picking up 3rd quarter onwards - slowly reaching the pre-Covid-19 levels. In the FMCG industry, consultants were least impacted by the pandemic in terms of fees but others in industries like professional services, pharmaceuticals, and education, experienced a decrease of over 20 per cent in their median compensation between the 1st and 2nd quarter of 2020."
