Over 10 Lakh Blue-Collar Jobs Lost Due to COVID-19: Report

More than 10 lakh blue-collar jobs are estimated to be lost because of the COVID-19 pandemic and the income loss was pegged at Rs 2,467 crore per month, revealed the Betterplace Job Report 2020.

It was observed that 44 per cent of the jobs lost are in the gig economy and 30 per cent of the job losses came from Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai and New Delhi alone.

The job report is based on five-year data, 1000+ companies, 20,000 pin codes, and 80 Lakh employees.

The report indicated that as the economy is beginning its recovery, sectors such as delivery and healthcare will surpass pre-COVID levels and job opportunities will witness a massive growth in tier II and III cities. Bangaluru and the four metros will create 70 per cent of demand pre-COVID levels.

In terms of recovery, Hyderabad, Noida, Gurugram, Pune and other tier II and III cities are placed in ‘out of stress’ and ‘back to normal’ category.

The report further stated that one-third of the demand will come from three Southern States – Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. In addition, city-wise Hyderabad, New Delhi, Bengaluru and Mumbai will create the largest opportunities and Bengaluru and Hyderabad are the top destinations for the reverse migrant workforce.
