Uber lays off 3,500 employees via Zoom call

Amid the coronavirus pandemic, Uber has laid off as many as 3,500 employees via a Zoom call that lasted for a little nearly three minutes.

Ruffin Chaveleau who heads the ride-hailing app’s Phoenix Center of Excellence, informed the employees about the job cuts saying "Today will be your last working day with Uber."

Chevaleau reporteldy told the staff that there is a lot of slowdown in business and the company has no work for many frontline customer support employees.

" We are eliminating 3,500 frontline customer support roles.Your role is impacted and today will be your last working day with Uber. You will remain on payroll until the date noted in your severance package," he stated.

Last week in a regulatory filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Uber Technologies Inc had said that it will cut about 3,700 permanent jobs.
