Online grocers and pharmacies on a hiring spree

Amidst countrywide lockdown to contain COVID-19, online grocers and pharmacies are on a hiring spree to fulfil deliveries of essential items.

They are trying to recruit employees from restaurants and taking help from job portals.

India’s biggest delivery brands need experienced riders, so pick up your phone immediately and call us, reportedly said a message sent by Releski Jobs to jobs seekers. Releski Jobs connects candidates and employers in the restaurant, hospitality and retail industries.

As per the message, businesses including BigBasket, MedLife, Grofers and Starquik need riders and pickers for part-time and full-time job opportunities.

"We want to address the daily needs of workers who are out of jobs... but this is voluntarily from the workers side," said Amit Roy, a management committee member of the National Restaurant Association Of India.

Grofers is looking to add an existing idle semi-skilled workforce and BigBasket is looking to offer to those laid off because of coronavirus lockdown. BigBasket has also collaborated with the NRAI and Retail Association of India to offer jobs.

E-grocers and e-commerce firms such as Amazon, Flipkart, Jumbotail and Dunzo, are witnessing challenges for hiring on-ground staff as migrant workers fled to their native places from various states due to the lockdown
