Telangana announces pay cut amid COVID-19 Outbreak

Telangana government has announced cut in salaries of all executive, political representatives and employees in light of the novel coronavirus pandemic.

 

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and other state ministers along with members of Legislative Assembly will take 75 per cent salary cut.

 

"There will be a 75 per cent cut on the salaries of the chief minister, state cabinet, MLCs, MLAs, state corporation chairpersons, and local bodies representatives in view of the financial state of Telangana, due to COVID-19 pandemic," said Rao.

 

Civil servants in the administrative, police and foreign services along with other central service officers will have to take 60 per cent salary deduction. For all other categories of employees, including retirees, in the state will have 50 per cent cut in their pay. Also, Class-IV, outsourcing & contract employees will have 10 per cent salary cut.

 

The virus has impacted the economy across the globe. Last week, IMF chief Kristalina Georgieva said the world has entered a recession and warned that it will be worse than that of 2009.
