Facebook to support employees and small businesses deal with coronavirus pandemic

Mark Zuckerberg, the Chief Executive Officer of Facebook, announced to reward its employees with a $1,000 bonus to support them during the coronavirus pandemic. They are also considering giving them additional time off for taking due care of their families. The social media giant has a gamut of approximately forty-five thousand full-time employees.

 

Facebook also has thousands of ‘Work from Home’ contract workers. Though it is not yet clear whether these contract workers will get the bonus, they will definitely be paid even if they fail to deliver work under the prevailing scenario.

 

Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook Chief Operating Officer, announced their support to thirty thousand small businesses amid the pandemic by investing over $100 million.

 

She said that "Small businesses are the heartbeat of our communities, and many of the people who run these businesses are heavily affected by the crisis -- especially as more and more people sensibly stay home”.

 

Facebook will do what it can to support its employees as well as small business to deal with the impact of this pandemic. In the weeks ahead, Facebook will start with the process for receiving applications for the grants.

 

The Coronavirus outbreak has already reportedly infected over two lakh people globally. And, Facebook shares are also hit by more than 28% price drop.
