IndiGo assures staff no salary and leave deduction during suspension of operations

Budget airline IndiGo has assured its employees that neither their salaries nor leaves will be deducted due to the temporary suspension of flights.

In a mail to his employees, IndiGo CEO, Ronojoy Dutta said the carrier has "reasonable" level of advanced bookings for April and it was "anxious"  to fly again albeit with a reduced capacity.

“For those who don’t have to be working during this temporary suspension of operations, we will make no deductions of salaries or leaves,” Dutta wrote.

Citing that the past few days have been very challenging for the airline, he asserted  "clearly for the next few weeks our revenues will be well below our costs and we will have to make our efforts to penny-pinch and preserve cash".

"let us also be acutely cognizant of the fact that during this temporary suspension of operations, we will be spending our cash reserves to continue to pay salaries and benefits", he added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday (24th, March, 2020) declared a three-week countrywide lockdown and there must be a lot of thoughts going around about whether the world of work is set to fight the upcoming challenges that not only the airline industry but other sectors will be witnessing.
