LinkedIn rolls out assessment tool to test job seekers' skills

LinkedIn, the social networking platform for professionals has launched a skills assessment tool— that allows users to validate their skills and proficiency. The Skill Assessments are constructed “through a rigorous content creation and review process in partnership with LinkedIn Learning industry and subject matter experts.”

This new feature comprises short, multiple-choice questions that allow users to verify their knowledge in areas such as coding languages, software packages, and other work-related skills. All you to have to scroll to the skills section of your LinkedIn profile, and select one of the skills assessments.

“When skills are validated you can showcase your proficiency and become more discoverable to opportunities -- early results show candidates who complete LinkedIn Skill Assessments are significantly more likely (~30 per cent) to get hired”, the social media giant said in a blog post.

The results of assessments will be kept private, however if you pass with 70 per cent or above, you will have the option to add a “verified skill” badge to your profile. On recruitment side, managers can easily spot the candidates in search results who’ve passed a Skill Assessment and who’ve chosen to make the results public.

The announcement comes after LinkedIn's Language Matters report revealed that 69 per cent of professionals think their skills are more important than college education when job-seeking, and more than 76 per cent wish there was a way for managers to verify their skills so they could stand out amongst other candidates.
