Indians spend 7 percent of their day in commuting to office

Indians spend more time in daily office commute as compared to most of the countries across the globe, with more than 2 hours on the road every day, according to a national survey.

 

A report titled ‘Travel Time Report Q1 2019 vs Q1 2108’ by office commute platform MoveInSync Technology Solutions claims that an average Indian spends 7% of their day in commuting to office, averaging less than 3 minutes per kilometre.  With this time spent by Indians in daily office commute is among the highest in the world.

 

To learn how much time people travel in office commute, MoveInSync collated the data from Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune, Mumbai and Delhi-NCR.


The report indicated that office commuters in Chennai travelled the fastest with an average speed of 25.7 kmph, followed by Hyderabad (21.2), Delhi-NCR (20.6) and Pune (19.9).While Bengaluru and Mumbai commuters travelled the slowest, at an average speed of 18.7 and 18.5 km/hr.

 

However, in comparison to the first quarter of 2018, in Q1 of 2019, the study revealed that Bengaluru, Delhi-NCR, Mumbai and Pune saw a decrease in the average one-way distance travelled. On the hand, Chennai witnessed an increase of 12% in the average one-way distance travelled with a corresponding 8% increase in average travel time.

 

The report also talked about the travel times on different weekdays, and found that Monday blues hit the traffic too in all the six cities as it was found to be the worst day of the week to travel to work with the highest average one-way commute time. 

 

Apart from this, it was discovered that the people eached office fastest on Tuesday in Bengaluru, Wednesday in Mumbai and Pune, Thursday in Delhi-NCR and Friday in Chennai and Hyderabad.

 

In addition, the worst time to commute to work is 9am in five cities and 8am in Delhi-NCR and the worst time to back home is 6pm in Bengaluru, Delhi-NCR, Chennai and Hyderabad with 7pm in Mumbai and Pune.
